The aim of this project was to design a new prison afloat the Pacific Ocean, using an oil platform as a reference structure.
The design of this new platform includes all the facilities a prison may need with a design that is consistent with the human rights within the confinement. Due to it’s location, the newly designed form was supposed to induce a certain mood, which might affect the resocialization process.
All the matters that were brought up in this project resulted in dividing it into three parts :
the form,
the function and
the engeneering.
The form derives from emotions, the function draws on the early architecture of Cistercian monasteries and the engineering is based on the newest sustainable solutions. All this, combined with the subject of psychology and sociology, led me to design a place of incarceration in which, paradoxically, freedom would occur as the greatest threat and confinement. To show the scale of the oil platform, I have made a 1:200 model for my final presentation.
